Fall has arrived! There are so many interesting food events happening all around Moore County, NC this month. Here are several you should check out:
October 11: Pumpkin Beer Dinner at The Sly Fox
No better way to get ready for fall than the Pumpkin Beer Dinner at The Fox! Enjoy a 4-course dinner paired with Pumpkin Beers. Please call for reservations. Seating is limited.
October 13: International Sardine Festival
You can be an authentic Sandhills native once you’ve attended the Sardine Festival. Last year’s Sardine Queen will arrive by fire truck at 12 pm, and the new 2017 Queen will be crowned shortly afterwards. Everyone is invited to Aberdeen Lake Park, just off US Hwy 1, for a lunch of sardines, crackers, Moon Pies, RC Colas, and Coca-Colas. The sardines and other delicacies are free, but people are encouraged to make a small donation.
October 14: Southern Pines Brewing 3rd Anniversary Celebration
Come visit Southern Pines Brewing Company to help them celebrate their 3rd Anniversary! The celebration is packed with activities throughout the day. There will be a large outdoor stage, multiple food trucks on site, a bouncy house for kids, and the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS show car will be on site!
October 14: Wine Expert Night at Pinehurst’s The Holly Inn
Join Wine Expert Paolo Pellizzari of Bacco Selections for a delectable taste of hand-selected Italian wines. Bacco Selections is an Italian-American company importing fine Italian wines into North Carolina with a mission to import renowned wines that are not yet available here. They discover emergent boutique wines with small production that have not yet entered the U.S. market. Paolo and his staff personally visit the facilities, meet owners and workers and taste wines before deciding which to import.
October 15: English Carvery at The Sly Fox
The traditional Sly Fox Sunday roast features Roast Beef, Roasted Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes with Roasted Carrots and Parsnips, Yorkshire Puddings, Horseradish, and Gravy.
October 21: Wild Game Dinner – Celebrating Argentina
One of the best-known cultural symbols of Argentina, the gaucho is a rough, tough, free-riding horseman of the pampa and proud cousin of the North American cowboy. A prominent cattle-producing region, the pampa boasts vast, open pastures managed by modern-day gauchos who produce some of the best grass-fed beef in the world. This dinner will celebrate the heritage of the La Pampa province with a four-course meal showcasing the diverse flavors and agricultural products that are abundant in the country.
October 27: Lunch Bunch at The Market Place
The Market Place has a nice selection of salads, quiche and soups (and more), including vegetarian dishes and “specials of the day, not to mention homemade cookies and other baked goodies! This lunch is hosted by the Newcomers of the Pinehurst Area. All are welcome.
October 28: Village of Pinehurst Oktoberfest
The day kicks off with Kinderfest, a fun festival for children, with lots to see and do for the whole family. There will be carnival games, entertainment, and contests. The fun continues in the evening for adults with a traditional Oktoberfest featuring German music from the Holzhackern Tyrolean band, folk dancing, the second annual Pumpkin-Apple Baking Contest, and an Oktoberfest Games Arena. Brats, sauerkraut, pretzels, hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches, soda, beer and wine will be available.
